While Darlene, Sophie, and Selsie were taking a leisurely early afternoon ride around the exterior of the compound fence to survey prospective plots of new farmland to fence in for pasturage and hay fields, all hell broke loose.
Edgewater radioed that their fences had been hit by hundreds or thousands of the dead, and that they had lost contact with the small envoy that had headed out the day before.
Simultaneously, a horde of nearly 10,000 dead descended upon New Haven, sending the three women galloping for the safety of the gates - right after they rescued a next door neighbor, that is.
As Sophie, Darlene, Anthony Bradley, and others headed out to rescue the Edgewater group stranded on the railway line, Selsie stayed behind to monitor the rescue mission from Walter's radio shack. Meanwhile, the farm hands scrambled to move the livestock out of the pastures nearest the Annex fences and toward the center of the land, where the animals would be less likely to stampede in their terror. Hen was knocked senseless by a panicked Defiance, and Selsie ended up dealing with the difficult stallion.
As darkness fell, a new survivor, Andrea, made it through the gates and New Haven endured its first night surrounded by a seething tide of the dead...
