Until the blood tests come back, newcomers will be isolated at night in the secured area. It consists of eight House Arcs each set up with two sets of bunk beds, pegs on the walls, a table and four chairs. A small pot bellied stove has been attached to the back of each house where the second set of doors would be. The two solar panels in the roof provide enough power for the ceiling fan in each building. In addition, the houses have been set up with berms to maximize insulation year round. The front has a set of sliding glass doors that can be shaded from the inside with a bamboo rolled shade. The rear set of doors have been modified to work with the single unit pot bellied stove - they can burn coal or wood. In addition, each end has a window that can be opened for additional airflow. In the winter, frames will be provided to insulate that area. The central shower area has two stalls and four sinks. It is equipped with a tankless water heater. This option was chosen instead of the wood burning heater Darlene uses because of the minimal requirements for this area. The wood burning heater would be much better used in other areas. In addition, there are two incinerating toilets to handle waste products. It is surrounded by our standard eight foot high chain link set in a concrete base. The gate is a simple matter of a latched gate with a chain and padlock on it. This location is visible from the guard towers as well as the clinic, picnic area and Jackson and Selsie's house.

Also note that, along the Southwest wall of the quarantine area, there is a shipping container that has been opened on one side, to make a 3-walled community kitchen. There is a locked access door on the Compound side, that is used to bring food and supplies from New Haven into Quarantine Area kitchen. A rolling metal wall (like the ones used on the Common Kitchen Area) is closed when New Haven personnel are setting up meals or delivering supplies, and this rolling door is controlled by remote control from the Compound to prevent interaction between Quarantine Personnel and New Haven community staff. The inside door is unlocked, the door to the Compound is locked, and a bell is rung when meal service is ready and all New Haven members are clear of the containment area. This is done to protect New Haven residents from accidental contact with those inside the Containment Area.
In addition, Healthcare personnel who are attending individuals inside the Quarantine Area who have not been tested MUST use Infection Control, including full IC suits. These suits are available in the above noted Quarantine Kitchen area. The following procedure must be instituted to assure that infection risk to New Haven is minimized:
1. Ring the bell 2 times to clear any individuals inside the kitchen area. When it is clear, lower the door.
2. Enter the kitchen area, scrub, and gear up. The suit and breathing gear must be worn PRIOR to opening the rolling door into the Quarantine Area
3. Open the rolling door.
If a member's suit is compromised inside the holding area, the member must undergo testing, or must wait until all members inside the holding area test clean before he or she will be allowed to return to New Haven compound.
