Andrew and Jacinda had left the compound via boat with the understanding they would sail
south to Florida and hunt down saplings or seedlings to return to the compound in the hopes of rooting fruit trees. If the mission was a success it could mean great strides for everyone living there. For that reason Andy and jac had taken the time to do as much research on where the farms were in Florida, best ways to transport them. They had spoken to a few in the compound as well before departing.
The boat had been stripped of everything non essential, leaving room for those seedlings and their greatest comfort in traveling. The two had been joking about the damn things being their babies all the way there. Good time and a lot of laughs. Thus far in the trip they had clung to the coast in order to make good time and keep land in sight. here and there the navigation on the boat had flickered, so by sight and maps gathered before they left it was how they chose to travel.
Reaching Florida and none to soon, as a wicked storm front had rolled up the coast line, leaving winds rain and minor flooding for them. Well along the coast. Their thoughts went up to the compound that it might miss them and if it couldn't in the least that everyone would be safe. With good weather, they had recouped strength in a short lay over and thus began the trek on to the groves.
Inside the groves, many of the old growth trees were still in tact. Jac took cuttings of healthy branches, where guilds told her to trim and packaging them in the necessary ways. Andy was about gathering a few younger actual trees. The boat had the room and these were small, still maybe two years off producing but if they could transplant it would mean yield in a swifter time than seeds or even seedlings.
At t he moment they had managed to gather a good haul of several close knit groves, varying fruits. A help that two of the farms bore more than one specimen. Each of them were confident that enough would take to continue dividing and building on this base. In agreement that they would be heading home once the boat was packed over the next day and some notes on growing, tests for fertilizer and the like had been gathered from the first grove and a few tools for pruning and so forth. With good weather and the oceans cooperation they would be back at the compound within a few days.
