It's August 1st, the day that Aftermath of the Dead opened. (Well, technically, the room was approved on the afternoon of July 30th, 2011, but we didn't have it up and running until the 1st, the day Jacks and I first managed to role-play in it.) Of course, this calls for a celebration!
Since we already had an in-character New Haven Founding Day on June 23rd, in honor of the hypothetical day the fence around the compound was completed, this celebration will be a little different. -grins- For one thing, it will be an entirely out-of-character night of paying homage to all things zombie!
So what gruesomely fun events are in store?
Fabulously Dead Fashion Show
You are encouraged to rock it out in your finest undead fashions! Flaunt your most gruesome, horror-ific zombie - fashionably froth at the mouth in your Rager best - heck, come in as the undead version of your own Aftermath character, if you know how to apply the special affects make-up! I'll be picking winners in the following categories:
- Simply Scary - Avatars meant to put the horror in survival horror. Creepy, scary, horrifying, and designed to remind you that it's not all fun and games when the dead rise...
- Gloriously Gory - Going for the over-the-top gross-out? Apply for this category!
- Drop-dead Gorgeous - No, I'm not suggesting your design should make me want to crack open a cold one. -cough- However, even zombie avatars can be elevated to an art form!
The winner of each category will be awarded a graphic pass redeemable with our fabulous PoD Grapics Team! Those not graphically talented can wear a design someone else made them, but don't ask me for the graphic love. If I have to judge my own work, -I- win, and I take your swag, muahahah!
A board thread will be created for people to post their avatars, and winners will be announced at the end of the evening.
Days Gone Bye - 8 p.m. - 9 p.m. EST
I fully admit that I stole this title from the first episode of The Walking Dead! Don't know how you would survive without coffee and smokes? Absolutely thrilled by the thought of not having to pay your credit card bills? This round-robin discussion gives you the chance to ponder the luxury items and real-world things you would miss MOST and LEAST if the zombie apocalypse really happened. NOTE: This is meant to be fun and lighthearted! I don't want anyone getting depressed imagining their loved ones dying, but maybe you wouldn't mind too much if your horrible boss became a zombie snack, right?
Night of the Horror Critics 9 pm - 11 p.m. EST
A free-flowing discussion of the BEST and WORST zombie and Rager movies, TV shows, comic books, novels, and short stories. What makes for great zombie horror? What completely jumps the shark for you? Are those "fast" zombies scary as hell, or just completely ridiculous? Is there a film/book/graphic novel we just have to experience - or maybe one we need to avoid at all costs? What is realistic and what is not when it comes to zombie survival horror? All topics zombie are welcome!
As an aside, please don't let the discussion devolve into arguments. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and there's no need to take it personally just because someone is hatin' on your all-time-favorite zombie movie or has a different opinion about whether or not satellite phones would still work. -wink-
Memories of the Dead 11 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
It's time to get sappy! The evening will wrap up with past and present room members sharing their best role-play memories in Aftermath!
I hope it's a fantastic evening of undead fun!
